What do I need to take?

When coming on retreat in Nepal you need to balance travelling light with being well prepared. Our retreats include a component of trekking, and if you've never been trekking before, the thought of what you might need to take may seem a little daunting. We have a great list to get you started on our Preparation page, but we’ll also send you a comprehensive packing list after you have booked with us.

Do you cater for special dietary needs?

Generally, vegetarians, vegans and those who are gluten-free can find ample meal options to suit in Nepal. However, if you have a specific food allergy, we cannot guarantee that you will not be exposed to any allergens.

So, unfortunately, we cannot cater to special dietary needs. Whilst meals are provided for in our package, we do not prepare the food ourselves. Menus and availability of menu options will depend on the hotel, restaurant or teahouse we are dining at, and also affected by the time of year. Generally, most hotels and tea houses offer a range of menu options, from local through to Western style cuisine options. However, during off-season periods, menu options may become limited depending on the area we are in. The more remote the area, the fewer the choices.

What is the maximum elevation of the retreat?

The maximum elevation reached on our Yoga & Trekking Retreat in Nepal is just over 3,000m at Trakshindu La, and the village of Bupsa where we will be staying is at an elevation of 2,360m.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes! You need comprehensive travel insurance that will cover you for trekking up to or beyond the maximum elevation of the retreat. You will also need to ensure that you are covered for emergency rescue and evacuation, medical treatment and hospitalisation, among other things. We will need to sight a copy of your travel insurance in order for you to be able to join our retreats. This is outlined in our Terms & Conditions. Please refer to our Travel Insurance page for more detailed information, along with some recommendations of travel insurers.

Do I need a Visa for Nepal?

Yes, you need a Tourist Visa in order to enter Nepal, the duration of which should cover your entire stay in Nepal. Our Yoga & Trekking Retreat is 13 days, so a 30-day Visa will need to be obtained. However, if you are planning on staying in Nepal beyond your retreat, please ensure you obtain the appropriate visa. Visas can be obtained from the Nepal High Commission or Consulate General in your country before departure, or upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport. If you choose to purchase a visa upon arrival please note that although there are ATMs at the airport, these are not always in working order, so we advise you bring enough US dollars to pay for your Visa when you arrive. Please refer to the Government of Nepal, Department of Immigration website for more information, including current fees.

Do I need any travel vaccinations?

We recommend that you visit a travel clinic in your home country to discuss travel health, including any vaccinations that you might need prior to travel. The decision to have travel vaccinations is up to you.

We try to keep our groups small, in order to offer a more intimate experience. Therefore we have a 8 guests, with 16 being the maximum number of people we will take. These numbers ensure that all of our costs are covered, and that we are able to offer our guests the best possible price.

What happens if you don't get the minimum number of bookings required to run the retreat?

If we don't achieve the minimum number of people required to run the retreat, we will cancel or reschedule. In this event, we will give you the option of having all monies paid refunded, or to transfer all monies to a future retreat. Please refer to our Policies page and our Terms & Conditions for more information.

What is included in the cost of the retreat?

We have tried to create a retreat package that covers as many of your expenses on retreat as possible, including all accommodation and most of your meals. Please refer to the Yoga & Trekking Retreat page, as well as our Terms & Conditions for a full list of what is and isn't included in the retreat package.

Do I need to pay extra for tipping and gratuities?

Gratuities and tipping are not included in the cost of our retreats. Nepal is a country in which people tend to be paid very poorly, and there are no Government regulations on employment or wages. What you earn in an hour in your home country, people in Nepal may be lucky to earn in a day or a week. We do aim to be able to pay our staff above industry standards, however gratuities and tipping are still expected. We will guide you regarding the appropriate time to tip our staff, and the recommended amount to tip. Of course, the decision about how much to tip is entirely at your discretion.

Are there any age requirements for the retreat?

Yes. Our retreats are designed for people 18 years and over (unfortunately, those under 18 cannot participate). Seniors are also welcome. However, regardless of your age, we will require a medical certificate from your doctor stating that you are healthy and fit to trek, along with a copy of your comprehensive travel insurance. If you are over 18 and able to obtain both of these, we will not question your age! Please refer to our Terms & Conditions for more details.

Is this retreat for women only?
